CARMEN BIRD
ACID ATTACK SURVIVOR
A recent trip to India presented me with many wonderful moments and experiences but also some confronting realities. This beautiful lady is the survivor of an acid attack. Her story and many others are not only about the visible physical scars but also about the invisible emotional and psychological wounds that survivors carry and the pain of many ongoing operations. They serve as a reminder of the importance of empathy, understanding, and support for those who have endured such violence.

ABOUT CARMEN
I have always had a love of all things creative and after years in the fashion industry I discovered photography and quickly became obsessed with creating images. I am an extrovert and thrive on connecting with people from all walks of life.
I work with businesses from sole traders to large corporates creating marketing, advertising, content, branding and portraits for media, websites, billboards, social media and print. I work with colourful fun fashion brand Augustine photographing their ranges in studio and on location.
I have worked with charities including Cure Kids and Heart Kids and have photographed many successful campaigns for them over the years.
I LOVE the outdoors and photographing our countryside and spend a lot of time in the South Island. I’ve been steadily growing my collection of landscape images which I sell via my website. You can often find me at the beach for sunrise, sunset or setting up for a night shooting astro. I’m constantly planning my next get away. The last few of years I have been lucky enough to photograph and explore Europe, Asia and India. I have a few trips in the mix for 2025 – visiting my daughter on the Gold Coast and my son in Canada, I’m super excited to get out adventuring and shooting scenery in new places.
