From the series: The Deep Sleep.

In my series The Deep Sleep, I explore the invisible, unspoken anxiety surrounding the impending climate collapse, a crisis that weighs heavily on the minds of many.

Images of a couple walking into the ocean with their suitcases evoke a sense of existential unease-an expression of humanity’s collective reluctance to face the urgency of our environmental crisis. Their journey into the vast, indifferent waters reflects our collective tension between awareness and inaction, mirroring the comfort we find in avoiding difficult truths. The setting sun casts Iong shadows, echoing the diminishing time we have to act.

In a world where no one wants to say what we are all thinking, I feel like we are all in a deep sleep, drifting toward an uncertain future.

ABOUT SARA

I have been a photographer for 15 years, but I think I was always meant to be one.

As a child, I travelled the world on a 30’ sailboat with my family. Our journey took us 13 years, through Europe, Panama, Venezuela, the Virgin Islands, Senegal, Morocco, Spain, Italy, Greece, Cairo, the Red Sea, Yemen, the Seychelles and Maldives, Indonesia, Australia, England, France, the United States, Mexico, and the Pacific Islands.

Experiencing different cultures, swimming with dolphins and whales, surviving hurricanes, catching fish, complete isolation, complete freedom.

This experience shaped me into a dreamer, an observer and a wildly passionate creative.

I live on Terawhiti Station on the rugged South Coast of Wellington. My work a a commercial and lifestyle photographer is prolific, filled with colours borrowed from the ocean.

I am beyond grateful to make a living doing what I love.
