JEN RAOULT
ANIMA 1 and ANIMA 2
FROM THE SERIES ANIMA
Anima is a visual exploration of the human psyche. The series focuses on the moments of intense emotion that lead to transformation or transcendence. Whether we are birthing, experiencing grief or confronting our darkest trauma, we reach that very moment when climactic pain and discomfort become a catalyst for growth and understanding.
The series is an invitation to journey through physical movements and biomorphic shapes deep into the human psyche. It describes ritual and healing that comes out of confronting the most painful aspects of our psyche.
While entering the era of transhumanism, the Anima is a reminder that our present is undeniably linked to our primordial, it is what makes us human.
ABOUT JEN
I’m Jen Raoult, a photographer, filmmaker and storyteller raised in the sunny South of France. Growing up in a small town by the Mediterranean Sea, close to the Italian border, I developed an appreciation for the many cultures and people of the world.
After graduating from Provence University with a Master degree in Art History specialising in Cinema, I moved to Paris and studied photography at L’Atelier Reflexe. I then went on to work as a documentary and editorial photographer in Paris and numerous other places around the globe, immersing myself in the cultures and people I met along the way.
As an artist, I have been dedicated to uncovering the true essence of my subjects and presenting them in an unfiltered and authentic way. By working with so many different people, I have been given the privilege to discover new perspectives and knowledge that has shaped me endlessly.
In 2009, after several visits, I made the decision to move to New Zealand. A few years later, I was blessed with the arrival of my beautiful daughter, which ultimately made me stay in New Zealand.
Since then, I have been busy working on a variety of projects, including editorial and commercial work, as well as stills photography on film sets and I have now 2 beautiful daughters!
Documenting religious, spiritual and ritualistic practises has been a driving force of my creative practice.
My current focus is creating a body of work that explores the human condition and the options we have to liberate ourselves from its limitations. Through this work, I seek to explore the depths and complexities of the human soul, and to create a space where conscious and unconscious forces can meet and form an understanding of our being.
