THE WOMB OF THE WORLD
“The womb of the world” series speaks to our tumultuous journey of exploring darkness in search of light. Over the lockdown last year I fell into some challenging thought processes and instead of running from them, wanted to explore the idea of vulnerability in a dark time and hopefully create something light and evocative in the process.
A book I read quoted “When a woman is in the ocean she is in the womb of the world” and so with intent I set out to allow myself to submit into my deepest crevices and look at the underwater world through a darker lens to show the ultimate vulnerability of a woman in her purest form sacrificing herself to the tugs and flows of the ocean’s energy currents, in turn revealing an emerging strength.

Amber has always been drawn to moments of unrehearsed life in the wild that inspire thought; that creates a connection between the viewer and the subject. After years of chasing the sun and many surfboard-riding humans around the world with her camera, she has become adept at creating imagery that evocatively transports the viewer into her place and time.
What started out as an action sports photography passion quickly flourished into a commercial career, telling stories across tourism, lifestyle, and underwater campaigns which sees her pairing up with agencies across NZ and the globe.
Recently, she has delved into the directing world after years of storytelling through film which has seen her direct the latest Mazda global campaign and DB export campaigns for 2021.
“My photography and film direction will most often lead you toward unchartered territories and I am always seeking to connect my work to the environment and entice the audience to jump in and immerse themselves in it. Marrying large-scale advertising campaigns with the paradigm shift of conscious consumerism is at the forefront of what I do. Although the ocean and everything that inhabits & recreates within it inspire me most, I am also moved by early light, craftsmanship, sustainable practices, and athleticism.“
