REBECCA MACFIE
Lumen printing involves using silver gelatin photographic paper and sunlight to make images and these ones are a form of cameraless photography. They were made at home during a family isolation period, due to Covid, in 2022. They were made using materials found at home at the time in the artist’s home, including discarded throat lozenge wrappers and hand sanitiser bottles which were combined with expired photographic paper and the weather (sunlight, wind, frost, and rain) to record these images. All these elements are interacting with the paper to record what you see here. These four are part of a larger series and they are numbered according to the day of isolation. The creation of these was a calming practice at a tricky time.
